Packing for a Mediterranean Cruise

Mediterranean cruises are one of the most popular among our clients.  What to pack is always a common question when planning their journey.  Just as important as the destination itself is being prepared for evenings on the beach, a last minute bike ride, or a visit to a religious site.  Our own Nancy Yale has put together a wonderful packing list to help maximize your trip, while minimizing your baggage.

  • Swimsuit – You will only need one, as you’ll be touring more and not spending as much time at the beach or pool as on a Caribbean cruise.
  • Cover-up – Nancy recommends a pareo, which you can use to cover your shoulders when touring religious sites.
  • 4 T-shirts – Make sure 1 or 2 are lightweight enough to hand wash if needed.
  • 3 pairs of shorts or capris
  • 2 pairs of long pants (3 for men)
  • 2 button down shirts for men
  • 2 summer skirts or dresses
  • Pashmina
  • Lightweight cardigan
  • Evening clutch
  • Longchamp tote for around the ship, at the pool, or on shore excursions.
  • Shoes: flip flops, closed toe shoes, sneakers and 1 or 2 pairs of dress sandals (make sure they are comfortable enough to walk on cobblestone in case you dine off the ship
  • 1 packable rain poncho – Nancy likes Patagonia’s lightweight one that folds into a pouch.
  • 1 set of gym clothes for onboard exercise or off ship biking
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Travel size insect repellent
  • Zippered plastic bags for wet clothes, spices or coffee you may purchase.
  • Leave at home: seasickness medicine.  If you need it, the ships have it.

Tip:  Pack your swimsuit into your hand luggage so you can hit the pool right away.  It can sometimes be a few hours before your suitcases are delivered to your stateroom!Lisbon19166
